It's not often that a high school athlete captures the hearts of legions of supporters across the country. It's even less often when that high school athlete does it by cracking an opponent over the head with a relay baton, but that's what happened this week in Virginia.
In a tearful address to the attendees of her rally, high school track athlete Alaila Everett thanked supporters for showering her with cheers after she bludgeoned an opposing runner with a baton during a race.
Everett again maintained she was innocent of the thing everyone saw her do.
I would never harm anybody. I'm not a fighter, I'm not even confrontational, I wouldn't even do that on purpose, and I thank y'all for believing in me. I love y'all.
The Portsmouth NAACP is standing by Everett and asking everyone to ignore their own eyes and common sense and instead believe her story that she "lost her balance."
'Alaila is NOT AN ATTACKER and media headlines that allude towards that in any way is [sic] shameful,' they said in a statement.
She's such a poor, pitiful victim, huh?

Despite evidence to the contrary, Everett maintains that Tonya Harding is not her sports idol.
Here's hoping Everett "accidentally" faces legal consequences for what she "accidentally" did.
