The New York Post reports that this is the murder weapon in Charlie Kirk's assassination:
That is a .30-06 Mauser bolt-action rifle, commonly used for hunting big game like elk and moose.
A single spent shell casing was reportedly in the chamber, according to the Wall Street Journal. Three additional unspent rounds were in the magazine.
The ammunition had messages of "transgender and anti-fascist ideology" written on each bullet, according to a leaked internal note from an ATF officer.
The FBI is seeking information about a new person of interest and has released a photo to the public. It is unknown if this is the suspected shooter, a potential accomplice, or someone the FBI thinks may have been a key witness.
The shooter fired a bullet from the rooftop of the Losee Center on the campus of UVU, firing downward into the campus courtyard where thousands of people were gathered to listen to Kirk.
Here is a map showing the overview of the campus. The yellow circle is where the shooter took his shot. The blue circle is where Kirk was sitting. The red circle is where the gun was found.
According to authorities, the shooter scrambled off the roof and into that wooded area in an adjoining suburb, where he ditched the rifle. Officials have a high-resolution picture of the shooter from a neighbor's security footage. They also have gathered biometric data from the shooter.
Footage from a cell phone shows the moment the shooter jumped to his feet and scrambled to enact his getaway:
