MSNBC hosts laments campus protests because they might lead to "next Reagan era"

You could oppose protests because of the cause, or their lawlessness, but MSNBC seems to have different reasons to object to the chaos on campuses.

Let me check my notes real quick. That reason is...

...Ronald Reagan?

It feels like an inflection point for the country. We're barrelling towards a presidential election, the country feels catastrophically divided on every issue ... It's hard to imagine that this imagery of the NYPD storming Columbia in this moment is not going to reverberate... across the political divide.

She sees history repeating itself! Leftists are battling on campus. There's unrest in the country. Chicago is hosting the Democratic National Convention. It's 1968, the Summer of Love, all over again.

It was in part the backlash (to 1968 protests) as well as to urban crime that gave us not just Richard Nixon, but, you know... kind of unbroken Republican rule until Bill Clinton.

If I were MSNBC, I'd stop worrying about a return to the Reagan era and instead prepare for a new Nixon era.
