Cancer that has metastasized to the bone is much more difficult to treat, but hormone-sensitive cancer cells respond better to treatment. Prostate cancer also has one of the highest survival rates of any form of cancer.

More medical background from NBC News:

Approximately one out of eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their life, according to the American Cancer Society. The cancer is common in older men, and it is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men, with lung cancer being the first, according to the society.

Last week, a report indicated that a nodule had been found in the former president's prostate after a scan.
