Iowa State students held a mock funeral to mourn the closure of the university's LGBTQ center (yes, this is real)

Iowa State students are holding a funeral on campus — except there's one major detail missing: Nobody died.

"So what exactly ‘died'?" you might be wondering. That would be the ISU Center for LGBTQIA+ Student Success.

It's not technically dead, but restructured and renamed in response to a new state law, Senate File 2435. To say the least, ISU Students Against SF 2435 are NOT happy about this.

'This is a funeral, but it is also a protest,' according to the mock obituary the ISU Students Against SF 2435 Coalition shared with the Ames Tribune. 'As both the Iowa and federal government become increasingly hostile toward queer people, it is integral that we stand together in solidarity.'

The law, kicking in on July 1, 2025, tells state universities like Iowa State: "No more DEI offices — unless the law or your accreditation people absolutely demand it."

In other words, DEI is out, unless it's the legal equivalent of eating your vegetables.

Hey, let's give them a little credit … at least those cloth masks worn outdoors will protect them from COVID — or, more realistically, from any accidental exposure to sane and rational thought:

And what's with the ear protection??
