Woke word games are dumb.
Does she not realize that "humankind" still has the word "mankind" in it?
On Old English, the words "Were" and "Wife" meant man and woman. "Man" was a Germanic word used to refer generally to people. If you wanted a gendered word to talk about all men or all women, you could say "mankin or "wifkin."
By the 13th century, "mankind" became the norm. A few hundred years later, the French word "human" slipped into usage (literally meaning "of man" or "belonging to man"). It still retains a slightly different meaning related to civility ("humane," "oh the humanity!").
So anyway, the words "mankind" and "humankind" mean literally the same thing. One just takes an extra syllable to say.
