Meanwhile, I'm over here thinking about the fact that the guy ISN'T EVEN DOING IT RIGHT.
I lived in the Middle East for a semester as a student. When I ate mansaf with Bedouins in a tent in the Wadi Rum desert, I didn't have a fork handy. I used the rice and bread as a sponge to pick up the other elements by scooping with my fingers, but - AND THIS IS KEY - you keep your thumb in the middle of your hand so you can pop the rice into your mouth instead of slurping it like Zohran.
But why does it really matter? Why are we even arguing about this?
After all, in all my travels and my time teaching international students, I've found the majority of the world isn't very particular about slurping or messy hands or all other sorts of manners at the dinner table. You aren't supposed to talk about such things, lest you be branded a bigot for preferring hand soap and forks, but it's the truth nonetheless.
What's far more interesting than the argument about eating food with hands is why a rich Ivy-league immigrant is pretending to be a dude from the streets who hates rich people.
And that brings us back to the actual thing we should be arguing about:
Dude's a commie. An actual commie. Who cares how he eats rice?
