IT PASSED!
After passing its own version of the omnibus bill, the Senate sent it back to the House for approval, where it has been stuck for the last several days.
Last night, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller made the Trump administration's perspective clear.
The House was a zoo on Thursday as the reality-TV contestants on Capitol Hill ran around to see if they had the necessary votes to pass the bill.
While you were sleeping, one of the lone Republican holdouts, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, apparently signaled that he would flip his vote to a yes.
This understandably made the Democrats a bit panicky, so they threw Hakeem Jeffries, better known as "Dollar Store Obama," out onto the floor to rally the troops and stall the bill as long as possible.
As of 9 a.m. EST, Hakeem was speaking to a mostly empty chamber, with a few Dems strategically placed behind him to make it look like anyone cares.
His ramblings, as far as I can tell, waver between outright lies and theater-kid drama.
Just before 9:30 a.m., Fox News reported that President Trump is planning to sign the bill on July 4th.
Update: 9:45 a.m. EST - A Republican named Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) is getting destroyed on social media for voting no on the bill. His reason? The bill doesn't give money or weapons to Ukraine.
Dude's gonna get primaried!
Update: 9:51 a.m. EST - JD Vance says a congressman changed his vote to yes because he can't stand how insufferable Hakeem is being. 😂
Update: 10:17 a.m. EST - Hakeem is still going and plans to drag this out as long as possible. 🥱
Looks like Republicans are just waiting in the hallway for him to stop his yammering.
Update: 10:45 a.m. EST - Another Republican congressman has signaled that he will vote yes, inching the bill closer to the finish line.
Clyde has been upset that the Senate version of the bill removed language that would gut the National Firearms Act, allowing Americans to buy suppressors and short-barreled rifles without tax stamps and registration (me too, man).
Update: 11:30 a.m. EST - Hakeem is now trying to stop the bill by saying it will ... defund Planned Parenthood (LOL).
Speaker Mike Johnson is clearly amused:
Update: 1:20 p.m. EST - Hakeem is now taking Scripture out of context.
Update: 1:36 p.m. EST - Hakeem might be wrapping up. Maybe.
Update: 1:48 p.m. EST - HE'S DONE.
He set a record for 8 hours and 44 minutes, but he's finally done.
That's all I have for the moment, but I'll have updates as soon as they drop. 🫡
