Her WHAT now?
I have been told for my entire life that this kind of language is bigoted and offensive.
I think the term Pramila is looking for is "product of conception."
"Woman" is also offensive: She should go with "gestational parental unit" or "pregnant person."
BETH HAS THOUGHTS:
The story is tragic, but Pramila left out a few key points:
Iris Dayana Monterroso-Lemus had lost custody of two of her six children, who were in the care of her mother.
She was arrested for failing to appear at a custody hearing; the ICE detainer followed.
She was pregnant with the child of a man she'd been living with for a year and a half out of wedlock (he is presumably an American citizen and marital status is a factor in deportation hearings).
She was 37 years old, meaning she had a geriatric pregnancy that is higher risk AND experienced pelvic pain that sent her to the hospital in February BEFORE she was detained.
As Beth mentioned, Homeland Security noted the conditions at the Louisiana facility were subpar in 2023, giving the Biden admin at least a year to fix the problems.
Claims of lack of care and unhygienic conditions are entirely based on Iris' own account, which cannot be corroborated and therefore rely on the trustworthiness of her character (I'll let you decide here).
Update: The Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security had this to say:
Wanted for murder!!!
But context doesn't matter when you're a politician trying to rage-farm.
