An immigrant from Peru told his family and friends that ICE had "abducted" his wife because of her immigration status, a story which was gobbled up by the media.

Then this happened.

The theory is that Gutierrez killed his wife, blamed ICE for "abducting" her, skipped town with his three sons, and headed home to Peru. Meanwhile, his neighbor's Google Nest camera caught him dragging a suspiciously large sack that looked big enough to contain a human in it, and then shortly later officials found his wife's dead body in the L.A. National Forest.

He used the "ICE is kidnapping people" lie to create enough space for him to skip town!

From ABC7:

Gutierrez (victim)'s sister says he first said ICE had taken her. Later, he claimed she left with another man. In a third account, he said she'd suffered an accident ...

According to Univision 34, the Peruvian consulate says Cabrera arrived in Peru with the couple's three children. The consulate said Peruvian authorities could not detain him because there was no warrant for his arrest.

Authorities are working with Peru to bring the husband back to the U.S. for the investigation.
