A historic moment for Iceland.
Cue the liberal talking points on global warming or climate change or whatever they're calling it now.
A bit more about this historic feat for mosquitoes:

Iceland was one of two countries that had never seen mosquitoes establish themselves in the wild. That leaves Antarctica as the final holdout.
Citizen scientist Björn Hjaltason caught the mosquitoes in his garden and thinks they may have come via ship in the nearby hub of Grundartangi.
Time will tell whether or not these cold-resistant mosquitoes will make it through winter. To do so, they'll have to hunker down in basements and such.
The species, Culiseta annulata, "is notoriously cold resistant, able to thrive in the Palearctic region — an area that encompasses Northern Africa, all of Europe and Asia north of the Himalayas."
I'll let the New York Post go all climate change for a minute:
Despite Iceland's harsh climate, scientists have reportedly noted that the island nation is an ideal habitat for mosquitoes due to the abundance of marshes and ponds where they can breed, the Guardian reported.
This is especially troubling given that Iceland is warming at four times the rate of the rest of the Northern hemisphere.
Good luck to these mosquitoes over winter break. Iceland's climate can be ultra tricky.
