After resigning as deputy director of the FBI, Dan Bongino took to social media to announce that his talk show would be returning soon.

He then defended the Trump administration and added this for his critics:

Well, that little addendum kicked off the kind of angry comments you might expect, which led Dan Bongino to ignore the hate grab his flamethrower and go to war.

In a follow-up post, he said this (among other things):

We've got midterms coming up, and there's no time for bullsh**. This administration is cooking and REAL change simmers. If you're spending your entire day b****ing and whining with 3/4ths of the term still to go, then please find the exits. There's no time for it. It's not 'infighting' when you excise a cancer killing the host. It's 'outfighting' because you're not part of any movement I'm familiar with.

That led to another follow-up post, where he continued a scorched-earth policy against his haters and reiterated his support for Trump's leadership.

The support for the Trump administration in the working world is strong. And people are tired of the endless bullsh** from the black-piller, chicken-little grifters. Watch their tactics, and once you see them, you'll never unsee them. They use a couple of different tactics to bullsh** you.

Bongino defended his loyalty to conservative politics, noting that he was a political candidate during the height of the Tea Party movement, and contrasting his loyalty with the endless naysaying of his critics.

...the black-pillers are infamous for telling you an administration policy or action is going to lead to the end of the world, before the policy has even been given time to demonstrate results. You're seeing it now with regard to Venezuela. Will it work out? Maybe. We will all see. But maybe give it a minute before you attack from inside the tent while pretending you're an ally.

Millions of people read Bongino's comments.

One of them was former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida.

Matt Gaetz decided to respond to Bongino.

Matt Gaetz chose violence.

Gaetz is referring to Bongino's three failed bids for a political seat after leaving the Secret Service in 2011. In Maryland, Bongino ran for U.S. Senate in 2012 and the U.S. House in 2014, but lost the general election both times. In 2016, he then ran for U.S. House in Florida, but lost the Republican primary.

Well, Bongino being Bongino, he wasn't going to let that comment go unanswered. 👇

Gaetz responded with a response about his love for "doggies" and clips of Bongino praising him over the years.

Gaetz could (should?) have left it there, but he didn't (because of course). Instead, he posted a long response to Bongino, which at time of publishing, had opened up an opportunity for Bongino to attack again:

Me, looking at the collective maturity level of the Republican Party right now:
