Did you know the Bible says not to judge? Apparently it's the only thing the Bible has to say about anything!
That was a real post from Chip Gaines of HGTV fame after people learned his new reality show would feature two gay dudes and the boys they adopted.
When people started asking why he was platforming sin, Chip threw out a Bible verse out of context:
We helpfully tried to respond to Chip, since he has a lot of faithful Christians who have followed his life and career over the years … but he just laughed at us.
I don't know how deep Chip and JoJo's faith is. Many American Christians have a surface-level understanding of Scripture, adhering to God's commands regarding mercy and compassion while ignoring His commands about purity, holiness, justice, and the the penalties for sin.
Posts like this seem to indicate that Chip does not know much about the Christian faith:
And yet, because Chip professes to be a brother and I would both admonish and encourage him as such, it would be helpful for him to pay attention to the replies.
Megan Basham, an investigative reporter for the Daily Wire who covers Christianity in America, found more when she dug into the details about the Gaines' acceptance of the LGBT sex cult.
Clint Harp of the Harp Design Co. created unique woodworking pieces for the Gaines on Fixer Upper. He seems to be exceedingly woke.
Proximity to individuals who believe or vote (D)ifferently than you doesn't indicate a problem with your faith.
But approval of sin in your friends' lives does.
Consider: The Gaines' have publicly supported a cameraman who left his family to live with another man.
Here is a direct reply from Joanna to Billy Jack Brawner:
And another:
What of the gay men the Gaines have on their new show? They deprived their children of mothers, renting a womb in order to adopt boys.
Needless to say, there are many good, churchgoing folk who capitulate on sexual degeneracy in the name of niceness. As Pastor Voddie Baucham says,
The 11th Commandment is 'Thou Shalt Be Nice,' and we don't believe the other Ten.
But God is not interested in nice, churchgoing folk. He is interested in a holy people set apart for His purposes.
Scripture does not mince words. Today in Hebrews 10 I read this, which I offer to Chip and JoJo:
Anyone who disregarded the law of Moses died without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, who has regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know the one who has said,
'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,'
and again,
'The Lord will judge his people.'
It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
A terrifying thing.
God is love. God wants us to speak with gentleness and respect about why we crazy Christians believe Jesus really is the Son of God - and that through Him, we have the hope of being raised to eternal life after death.
But nowhere does the Bible tell us that in our respect for others, we ignore sin. It says to be gentle when talking to unbelievers about our faith; not to use that as an excuse to never rebuke or correct a friend who is, say, abandoning their family so they can have sex with other men.
The words for that are cowardice, capitulation, and complacency.
Again, the Bible does not mince words:
Don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God's kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males, no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God's kingdom. And some of you used to be like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Dear Chip, from a spiritual perspective, you are condemning your friends and acquaintances to the fires of hell through your cowardice whitewashed as kindness.
You are also leading many armchair Christians astray who might have otherwise been strengthened and encouraged through your testimony. And if your church leaders do not speak up at this point, they will be participating in this sin.
But that aside, from a practical business perspective, you have also condemned yourself. None of us who follow God's commands for sexuality, marriage, and family will permit our children to watch this show. You have alienated a huge portion of your core audience.
May the Spirit convict you when your wokeness leads to brokeness.
