Why was the daughter of the former FBI director who is under federal investigation for conspiracy against the president in charge of prosecuting two major trafficking cases?
Maurene Comey was a veteran lawyer in the Southern District of New York, long considered the most elite of the Justice Department's prosecution offices.
I love that the Associated Press included this next:
Her cases included the sex trafficking prosecution of Epstein, who killed himself behind bars in 2019 as he was awaiting trial...
...and the recent case against Combs, which ended earlier this month with a mixed verdict.
Maurene Comey also worked on the case involving Epstein's crime partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, where she was described by the media as a "rising star."
No reason was given for her firing, but people had a wide variety of ideas 👇
She didn't exactly "let Diddy off." That was the jury's decision.
But she was the lead prosecutor among six female prosecutors on said cause, and she caused the U.S. government to lose a high profile case.
Her failure in the courtroom was widely talked about.
She apparently failed to connect with the jury and isn't very good at public speaking.
She was also accused of wild overreach in the case by bringing charges that were too aggressive.
The fact that she is former FBI Director James Comey's daughter does not help her relationship with the Trump admin, nor does the fact that she works out of the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan, where six high-ranking officials resigned earlier this year after the Trump admin dropped charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams.
If you recall, the Biden admin charged Adams in 2024 with taking bribes and money from a foreign national. The move was seen as political lawfare after Adams broke ranks with fellow Democrats and drew international attention to the chaos of Biden's open border.
At any rate, Maurene was certainly radioactive ... especially considering that Trump says her dad helped Obama create the Epstein Files 😂
