The Wife-Carrying Championships in Sonkajärvi, Finland, had a noteworthy outcome this year:

A brand new record of 1:01.17 was set ... and it was set by a couple of Americans!

Caleb and Justine Roesler from Wisconsin took home this year's top prize: some cash and Justine's weight in beer.

‘There aren't many wives in the world who would agree to this,' the newly crowned world champion Caleb Roesler praised his wife after the competition.

He's right about that.

My wife would never agree to this.

Let's see what the Wife-Carrying Championship entails:

Here's some video of the event, timestamped to start during Caleb and Justine's run:

You can see that the Roeslers use the Estonian carry, where the wife rides upside-down, piggy-back on the husband's back with her legs wrapped around his neck, while overcoming various obstacles on the course.

'I try to squeeze tight and make it like a backpack almost, so I'm not bouncing around,' Justine said.

When Caleb first broached the subject of them trying the event, his wife gave him two rules:

You better win, and you better not drop me.

Well, mission accomplished!
